The employees there keep the reservation book and will be happy to let you know if there are still places available on your desired date.
It's best to call during the day - in the evenings the service staff usually is too busy to answer the phone. If there is permanently a busy signal, this is due to the currently very high demand. Then there is also no reservation possible for the current evening. However, you can always stop by and, even if you maybe have to wait a bit, get one of the tables that become available again.
